[edit] KICK-OFF!

Kick-Off takes place in the fast-paced world of international soccer competitions. Players invite friends to join their team to compete in friendly matches and tournaments. Team members improve their skills over time as their squads battle other players from around the world. The greatest of players contend for the glory of Kick-Off’s ultimate competition, the Championship!

[edit] Your Team At A Glance

On the main page, you will first notice four Team Attributes:

Strength.png Score.png Rank.png FanClub.png
Strength Score Rank Fan Club
This is based on the strength of your team, derived from your top eleven players. Even if you switch out your strongest team members with weaker ones as your current squad, your top players will still count toward this attribute.

This is important to note -- later, as your players accrue injuries, your top players will be forced to sit out of future games. You will have to compensate by using weaker players to take up their positions. If you train two teams concurrently, you can simply dismantle a secondary squad to reinforce your "main" team.
The score of your team is derived from every win, draw and loss of every game you have ever played. It is a summation total.
  • For a friendly match, every win garners you 3 points, every draw is 2 points and every loss is 1.
  • Tournaments apply a double modifier to the number gained (6 for every win, 4 points for draws and 2 points for a loss).
  • Championships multiply the base win/draw/loss by a factor of five (15 for a win, 10 draw, 5 loss).
Ranking of your team compared to all other teams in Kick-Off! This represents the number of spectators who fanatically follow the progress of your team.

In future, when you will be playing against others, this number will determine the amount of money (gate income) your team earns after each game; participating teams split the income evenly for each match. Whenever you play an opponent in a tournament match, the number of Fans might go up or down, depending on whether you win or lose. Your eventual gate income will depend on fan clubs, so it’s important to build this one up early!

Additionally, you will see your Group in the Championship, if you are playing in one. You will find a deeper explanation of it here.

[edit] Team Basics

For each match you have to field 11 players on a pitch, plus up to five replacements. For ease of use you can have up to 9 squads as long as you have enough team members to field them; in other words, you must have 11 players for each, or a minimum of 22 members on your team in order to create a second squad.

By default Kick-Off utilizes a standard 4-4-2 formation for your squad: one Goalkeeper, four Defenders, four Midfielders and two Forwards. You are, of course, free to customize a squad however you wish; you could, for example, have seven Midfielders and three defenders -- just don't expect to score many goals that way!

If you choose to let Kick-Off assemble your squads for you, it will always use the 4-4-2 formation as default.

When you first begin Kick-Off, your team is created automatically from your friends; the game fills positions based on the 4-4-2 formation. As an added bonus, you cannot lose these players (they do not expire) -- you are guaranteed to always have a playable lineup! Note, however, that even though these players may never expire, they also will not improve much as they accrue experience unless these friends install the game and accept the contract to become a permanent team member. It is important to eventually create a team of dedicated players who will distribute their skill points!

When inviting additional players or randomly assembling squads, Kick-Off will randomly assign positions for new teammates according to the 4-4-2 distribution. If you want to specifically set certain roles for new team members, just uncheck the "automatically choose positions" box in the invite window.
