Kickoff Skills

[edit] Skills in Further Detail:
The Kick-Off Game uses a set of rules very similar to a traditional strategy game; i.e. whenever you are challenged by something, you make an opposed "roll" against an opponent. That is, you and your opponent both roll a set of dice to determine the victor. The dice are rolled virtually and out of sight, of course, but the end result is what is displayed on the play screen.
For every action a player takes, there is an opposed skill check against an opponent or, in some cases, an unopposed skill check. The formula for the check is:
| [ ( stat ) + ( skill ) ] * ( fitness % ) * ( penalty % ) + ( situational modifier ) + ( random factor ) |
The random factor, of course, is the "dice roll."
Each player "rolls", and whomever rolls higher wins. In the case of a tie the player with the ball wins.
For each attacking skill there is an opposing defending skill-- they are placed next to each other on the skills page; for example, whenever a player tries to round his opponent, he uses the Dribbling skill against the opponent's Tackling skill.
Similarly, for each shooting skill there is an opposing Goalkeeper skill; again, next to each other on the skills page.
Mental and physical skills work a bit differently, being applied against each other in some situations (Playmaking
and Acceleration), or never checked, instead staying 'passive' (Learning and Stamina).
Some related notes:
- The stat in the formula is calculated as the stat the player is in. Attacking part of the midfield (2nd row from the top) uses average from Attack and Midfield and defending part of the midfield (4th row from the top) uses average from Midfield and Defense. So for a player who is 7/4/3, it uses 7, 5.5, 4, 3.5 and 3 as stat while being in rows from 1st to 5th, respectively.
- If there are two players in the same central tile, they contribute half of their stats and skills to the central tile and another half to the tile to the left or right.
- In each movement, skills are taken into account from the attacking player and the defending player (chosen at random if there is more than one), while stats are taken into account from all players present.
- Penalty percentage is 80% (i.e. -20%) for being placed in the wrong position or foot, and 64% (i.e. -20% twice) if both position and preferred foot are wrong. This does not concern the current position of the player, but rather when they were placed on the field on the Tactics Page. Keepers playing as outfielders and vice versa have a harsh 20% (i.e. -80%) penalty, and their stat ratings are calculated a bit differently.
