[edit] A
AAS - Actual Attack Strength. Actual strength of an attack, including weapons and zeal. See also, TAS.
AB - attack bracket
army size - number of attackers you can use. Increases based on power, may be temporarily increased by going on crusade. Army size is shown on the capital screen
army strength - sum of top n vassals power, where n is army size. Given on the capital screen
attack bracket - list of opponents that you can attack, determined by combination of TAS and power.
anvils - workshop units of production. Anvils may be bought with gold at a rate of 5 gold per anvil. Production of anvils may be sped up by buying iron from the mine.
[edit] B
BETA 2 - semi-mythical version of the game fondly recalled by ancient players, mostly for the much greater numbers of active players in war mode at the time, but also for player-controlled expansion of Army Size, and Attack Brackets calculated on TAS
bracket surf - purposefully changing Attack Brackets by altering Power and TAS by other means than seizing vassals. The first method of surfing most players learn is recruiting and releasing squirrels. This only really works in Knight and Baron brackets. Extreme surfing down is also known as Swooping, deep diving, and vulturing, usually these terms are used in a derogatory way. Surfing up is also done, whether by going on a crusade, or accepting vassals for a power wall or power rescue. See also, Swooping
[edit] C
capital - where all of your buildings are built and all of your vassals live
castle - building and expanding is done from the castle. Defended by the wall
cheating - something that people complain about waaay to much in the forums.
church - vassals placed in the church gain zeal. Upgrades decrease the time to full zeal. Defended by the palisade,
clone - there are no clones in knighthood.
court - vassals arrive in the court, where they sit around doing nothing until moved somewhere useful. Defended by the watchtowers
crusade - adds +1 to army size for one hour, may be done twice every 24hrs, but second crusade must be done during first crusade. Rescue and rebel attacks are disabled for duration.
[edit] D
dungeon - a kingdom that is extremely difficult to escape from via rebellion, note that there is no actual dungeon building.
DEVs - the game developers
[edit] F
freemen - an ironic term for NPC vassals that cost real world money to hire for two weeks at a time, and thus are not actually free. Freemen may also be bought and sold for gold on the vassal market, but when their contracts expire, they can only be renewed with real money.
[edit] G
garrison - a building, defended by the watchtowers. Building the garrison for the first time automatically puts you into war once you have at least four real vassals. Garrison protects some weapons from pillaging, holds reserve vassals to replace any seized from the wall, watchtowers or palisades. Change from between WM and PM from the garrison.
ghost wall - obsolete term referring to an exploit, since coded out of the game. At the time, vassals on rescue timers did not affect TAS. Very high powered vassals were trapper passed to an ally, who could place them in defense positions without changing his TAS, forming an unfair defense advantage. No longer possible, since vassals on rescue timers now count towards TAS.
[edit] H
hospital - building defended by wall. Vassals manning the hospital increase healing rate for all vassals.
[edit] L
level - see upgrades
liege - the player to whom a vassal is sworn to.
liege line - the line of vassals and lieges from bottom to a sovereign liege at the top. see also, liege line alliance.
liege line alliance - an alliance whose main rule is that all members belong to the same liege, or to one of the liege's vassals, or someone farther down in the liegeline.
[edit] M
marketplace - a building, defended by the palisade. Vassals stationed here generate gold. Not to be confused with the merc market or vassal market.
merc or mercenary - player who hires self out on a weekly basis, using the Merc Market
merc market found in the "Market" tab dropdown menu, "Hire Mercenaries". Here, players may hire themselves out or be hired by other players on a weekly basis. Related to the Vassal Market, not to be confused with the Marketplace building.
mine a way of speeding up the rate of production in the workshop. Buy mined iron bars for a bonus in production of anvils.
[edit] N
NPC - non-player character, any character in the game that is not played by a real person. See freemen.
numpty - someone who never has and never will have a clue about what he's doing
[edit] P
Palisiade or Pali - one of three front-line defense buildings, vassals manning the palisade defend against enemy attacks targeting the marketplace, workshop, church and outpost
PM - peace mode
Peace mode - you cannot be attacked nor attack other players in peace mode. See also, war mode and garrison
power rescue - differs from a normal rescue in that a high-powered vassal is brought in temporarily (via swearing or gifting) with the sole purpose of being used in the rescue
power wall - countermeasure against power rescue involving temporarily bringing in high-powered vassals to defend a seized vassal
[edit] Q
quarry - A way of speeding up expansion in the castle. Buy quarried stone for a bonus in production off hammers. See also, mine
[edit] S
spam attack (spamming) - repeated attacks, frequently enough to reduce defenses to zero.
squirrel - generic term for squire/handmaiden
squirrel lord - describes a player whose vassal lineup consists almost entirely of squirrels
surfing - see bracket surfing
swooping - practice of dropping power temporarily (usually by attacking a friendly player's trapper), often - but not always - with the purpose of seizing from lower power attack brackets and reclaiming the dropped vassals afterward, making rescue nearly impossible. Other reasons for swooping include assisting one's vassals with an alarm boost or to take their seizes to protect from an expected power rescue, or simply to drop out of an unsafe bracket and find a bracket to rest in.
[edit] T
TAS - Theoretical Attack Strength, sum of top N vassals, where N is determined by army size. Includes vassals still on rescue timer even though they cannot attack, but does not take into account weapons, church zeal, or freeman bonus. Players with similar TAS and power are grouped together in attack brackets. (also see AAS)
timer - seized vassal that still carries a fealty/rescue timer.
tower - a building defended by the wall. Vassals in the Tower help protect your gold and are more difficult to capture than others.
trapper bomb - attacking a trapper-enabled opponent with low powered vassals (usually squirrels) with the intent of weakening a defense through repeated rescue attempts.
trapper wash - drop a vassal with a fealty timer in a friendly trapper, after which the vassal is released and reclaimed, resulting in the removal of the fealty timer.
trojan - trojan horse, involves attacking a trapper with an active war-mode vassal, who subsequently weakens defenses inside the kingdom via rebellion
[edit] U
upgrades - or level, increase efficiency of buildings and are increased from the workshop
[edit] V
vanity Bump - promoting to higher title by adding temporary vassals, such as squirrels and mercs for no other purpose than to gain a new title.
vassal - the players serving under a liege. Each vassal may also be a liege to her own vassals.
vassal Market - found in the "Market" tab dropdown menu, "Buy Vassals". Here, vassals are bought and sold. Related to the Merc Market, not to be confused with the Marketplace building.
VC - viscount(ess).
vulture - 1. Derogatory term for a player who tries to recruit vassals away from their lieges, often by offering gold and vassals.
- 2. Derogatory term for a player who bracket surfs, or swoops, to much lower brackets with the purpose of seizing from lower power attack brackets and reclaiming the dropped vassals afterward, making rescue nearly impossible.

workshop - a building, defended by the palisade. Vassals in the workshop work to make your buildings more efficient. See also, upgrades, anvils
WM - war mode
